Earthquake happens frequently in Yunnan Province and raw-soil structure will still exist in a certain period of time, so soil is still the main building material in the serving residents of towns and villages in Yunnan.To depress the losses of earthquake damage, improve the shock resistance of the extant raw-soil buildings, and reduce the losses of lives and money because of the destruction or collapse of walls, this paper brings up a applicable reinforcing methods, the steel wire mesh and cement mortar reinforcement and the glass fiber and cement mortar reinforcement (sandwich wall), in allusion to the characteristics of rammed earth wall and the economic viability of village. Through the two methods, the earth wall's bearing capacity and shock resistance can be improved.Based on the above purpose of the study, the following several researches are done.(1) The survey of raw-soil structure in home and abroad is summarized, and the raw-soil structure's structural configuration, architectural style, and construction procedure are studied. Through the investigation and analysis of earthquake disaster of the buildings, various methods of reinforcement used in wall are compared, and a reinforcement method with low cost and simple construction technology is selected.(2) An experimental study on the physical and mechanical properties of soil, a main building material, is carried through. Based on the study of wall material, the destructive process and destructive feature of the testing walls are observed, and the main factors influencing the horizontal shearing capacity, deformation, and mechanical properties of walls are analyzed.(3) The reinforcement with different materials, the study on the improvement of horizontal shearing capacity, the destructive deformations with different reinforcing methods, the destructive deformations before and after reinforce, and the changes of strain and displacement are analyzed. According to the data and phenomenon of the test, analysis of the effect is carried through, including reinforcing material type, material consumption, anchorage, and construction quality from the level of shearing capacity, deformation, stiffness, and ductility changes. And the test results show that it is indeed a cost-effective reinforcing method using sandwich wall.(4) According to the test results, the comparison of the two different reinforcing materials is carried through, and a prepositional formula fit for the shearing capacity of the two different reinforcing materials is putted forward.
