Large-span structures are usually adopted in multifunctional stadiums , exhibition centers , museums , airport lounges hangars , industrial plants and so on architectural buildings. Because steel structures have such particular advantages as light deadweight, high bearing capacity, strong rigidity, good resistance to shock and fast construction, they are the idealist structure forms for large-span buildings.Currently the large-span structures are represented by portal rigid frames mainly in welded "I" shape section, whose spans are 9-36m in general. In addition, steel structures have defects in themselves like connection , material fatigue , stress concentration and welding, which will directly affect the safety of large-span steel structure. So for those spans over 36m, other structures are much used such as the space grid structure, this results in less design and production experience in large-span portal rigid frame. Although these sorts of structures are used for designing, only computer analysis software is operated to simulate a field load for force analysis, it is difficult for designers to grasp because big errors between theoretical simulation and the actual structure are made. Thus, doing fieldwork of test research on large-span portal multi-arc steel structure with rigid frame is of great theoretical significance and use value.Under the actual engineering background of the sports training stadium at Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology, SM Solver computing software and ANSYS software are firstly adopted in this paper to operate internal force analysis and theoretical calculations on unit structural frame and the whole structure. According to the map-loading, an analysis research is made on the stress situation of a 46.5m-span portal multi-arc steel structure of the welded "I" shape section by means of scene static test. In this paper ,an entire productive testing process on construction scene are introduced in detail, including the testing outline and loading system establishments, the description of testing procedure, testing data collection and conclusions. Also structure's weak nodes or parts are discussed under loading effect. Utilizing the scene test results of a 46.5m-span portal multi-arc steel structure with rigid frame, an analysis and discussion is conducted on such aspects as rational structure layout, structure static properties, components and joint designs. Furthermore, conclusions of referential significance to this type of structure design have been put forward and basic data have been provided to guide this type of structure system design and to carry out further investigation. Meanwhile, this research results will be contributed to promotion and application of large-span portal multi-arc light steel structure.
