The sixth speed increase of national railway system eventually/officially brings Speed Railway to Chinese people's life, and the emergence of speed railway is one of the essential factors which cause the contemporary railway stations to transform. Along with the implementation of urban public transportation facilities, people are familiarizing themselves with the concept of "transfer". The application of transfer center integrated in railway station system is embodied in modern railway station design as "seamless transfer". The existence of seamless transfer is another important factor for the emergence of modern railway station.Along with speed railway, many modern railway stations are under construction in our country. As a new form of railway station in China, it is definitely exhibiting many new changes and features. The paper elaborates these changes and features from two aspects:Firstly, the paper concentrates on the station yard and makes research on the history of construction of yard before the emergence of modern railway station and also the space change and features of railway yard in modern railway stations. Yard space used to be a prosaic space representation and now it turns from open outdoor space into indoor space. It, with the main-body station, reveals more features of transport architecture in the new time. The yard space at present is no longer the platform merely for the passengers to get on or off the train, but a core link in the whole railway station.Secondly, the paper takes the Xi'an North Railway Station as an example to analyze the passengers' transportation flow in modern railway station. Transportation flow forms an important part in station design. For a transport architecture where the floating population is large, the flow design weighs a lot in deciding whether the architecture is successful or not. At present, the technique of combining seamless transfer into railway station design is not mature in China, and we have to borrow advanced experience from other countries. This renders the necessity of doing more research on transportation flow. Based on this analysis and making comparison with the other railway stations, the paper fully introduces the transportation flow in modern railway station.By means of exemplification and comparison, the paper is divided into six chapters to discuss the abovementioned points. In the chapter about railway yard, the paper at first analyzes the transformation of platforms, problems and the rebuilding of rain shelters, etc, which aims to form an overall understanding of the original yard space and its transformation. After this, the paper dwells on the impact that speed railway and "transfer" concept make to the modern railway station and platform. The following chapter starts with the designs of some specific architecture to recognize and understand the features of new yard. The last chapter compares Xi'an North Station and several other new stations, seeking for their similarities and differences, in order to illustrate the new features and new changes in the transportation flow of modern stations.
