As the national economy develops, China's land resources have increasingly scarce. In the coastal plain area, the existing plain reservoir with large area and shallow water, this is a waste of the increasingly valuable land resources. It's necessary to study the technology of improving the storage for the plain reservoirs.Studying the technology of improving the storage for plain reservoirs, which is studying the water depth for plain reservoir, is how to increase the dam height and the reservoir storage utilization ratio. In the paper, based on the engineering design requirements, nonlinear static stability and dynamic stability of purely increasing dam height are studied with Er-wang Village Reservoir.The theories and methods of nonlinear static analysis and dynamic analysis for earth dam are reviewed and selected in this paper. Then the nonlinear FEM programs for static analysis of dam are developed by using APDL. Duncan-Chang model is adopted in the nonlinear analysis. Based on the process of the construction and water storage, the method of midpoint increment is used in the calculation. According to finite element nonlinear static analysis results, the stability for the dam on different conditions are analyzed. These include the stress level analysis and the static stability analysis. On the basis of static analysis, according to the calculation principle and method, the nolinear FEM programs for dynamic analysis of dam. The dynamic response analysis for the dam on different conditions, such as the dynamic stress and displacement, and so on, are carried on. According to the results of nonlinear dynamic analysis, the dynamic stability for the dam on different conditions is analyzed. Through the static and dynamic stability analysis, the results show that two programmes of increasing the dam height which don't take measures can not meet the stability requirements. When the dam toes respectively adopt the corresponding press-platform, they can meet stability requirements.In this paper, the study of water storage improvement is of important significance for engineering, and it can save a lot of land and water resources. It will have huge economic and social benefits, as well as provide a theoretical basis for constructions. It could also further promote the development of plain reservoir.
