Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) system can control the fuel injection and ignition accurately, so it cannot only improve the fuel burning efficiency in cylinders, which increase the performance of Internal Combustion Engines (ICE), but can reduce the mass of emission exhaust as well, which is one of the best techniques to economizes resources and solve pollution problems. Following the development and application of sensors and microcontrollers with high capabilities and reliability, the control strategies of engines are also being updated. In this paper, an available EFI system with FAI technology is investigated, which is a throttle position-speed, port injection and Air/Fuel ratio closed-loop feedback control system. Based on FAI system which cannot only used in single-cylinder motorcycles, but can also used in two-cylinder motorcycles, An ECU design project is presented. Then with the assistance of FAI system ECU development tools, the hardware and software design of ECU is accomplished. Hardware design includes choosing INFINEON XC164CM-8F40F, which is a 16-bit MCU, sensor signals treatment input circuits, executive output circuits and communication circuits. Software is designed in modularization by C codes, which includes ECU working process, calculating method, and control strategy design. The last but not the least, the control strategy of idle speed on motorcycles is analyzed. Then, through changing difference control parameters based on the ECU mentioned before on motorcycle tests, the strategy of idle speed is realized. It is indicated that the ECU in this paper can not only used in single-cylinder motorcycles, but can also used in two-cylinder motorcycles. The investigations of ECU in this paper provide a foundation for the control strategy studying in the future.
