Nowadays, nonlinear analysis has become an important part of structural seismic design, among which the nonlinear static pushover analysis has attracted the attention of more and more research for its merits of practicality. The nonlinear static pushover analysis has become one of nonlinear analysis tools of Chinese seismic code(GB 50011-2001).Firstly, the thesis describes the development and the present situation of the nonlinear static pushover analysis in the world, it compares the advantages and the disadvantages of the nonlinear static pushover analysis. Secondly, the background of application, the purpose, the main use,the basical principle and the lateral load pattern of the nonlinear static pushover analysis are discussed. Thirdly, the thesis discusses and compares the common nonlinear static pushover analysis. In the thesis, the nonlinear dynamic time history analysis is applied to two frame structures by using SAP2000 procedure. At the same time, the nonlinear static pushover analysis is applied to two frame structures by using ETABS procedure. In the result, we have got the time history curve, the base shearing force with the displacement of the top point, CSM(capacity spectral method), the story displacement and the story displacement angles when the structure arrives at the performance point, the evolutionary curves of the plastic hinges when the structure arrives at the performance point, so we can discover the weakness in the structure, we can also judge whether the seismic capacity of the structure could arrive at the performance purpose with different seismic demand. Finally, the result and the outlook are proposed for the studies of the nonlinear static pushover analysis in the thesis.
