Recently, Flexible AC Transmission Systems have been widely researched and developed as an efficient technology to improve electric power quality. As one of the key technology of FACTS, STATCOM has been the hot research topic of today's Flexible AC Transmission equipment because of its effective control and good compensation performance.STATCOM, is discussed in this paper, and the operation principle is analyzed through its circuit structure. Based on the theory of dq reference frame transformation the dynamic mathematical model of STATCOM in dq reference frame was deduced by introducing switch function. Based on time-varying characteristic of STATCOM's equivalent resistance, the Differential Geometry control strategy was inducted. So it can make the nonlinearation of STATCOM linearation. While the energy PI control strategy was inducted in the DC voltage control. Then these control method was testified with digital simulation based on the PSCAD/EMTDC 4.02, and having good dynamic performance.Finally, the controller based on digital signal processor(DSP) for the±10Kvar STATCOM equipment has been designed in this paper. This equipment design has the choice of the main circuit apparatus, the choice of the chip, and the design of the measure circuit,the control circuit,the source circuit. The control circuit based on the high precision, high speed digital signal processor TMS320F2407A and the control programme have been designed. The exprimental results indicate that the control strategy and design method used in this paper is effective and feasible, and the design of main circuit, control system and protection system is rational and correct.
