With more and more application of the power electronic equipment, the power quality problem caused by the harmonic in power net becomes increasingly important to consumer. It not only affects the security application of electricity for power consumers but also intimidates safe and economy operation of power system. Harmonic suppression has become an important research subject in electrical engineering area. The important trend of harmonic suppression is using active power filter(APF). However, the study on control strategy of APF is one of thecore problems. In recent years, a new control technique——One-cycle control supplies a newmethod for the control of APF.In this paper, based on the analysis of the cause of harmonic generation and the working principle of APF, the mechanism of APF harmonic suppression is discussed. The harmonic detection methods and control technique of APF are analyzed and summarized. On the basis the one-cycle control of APF is proposed. Then one-cycle control theory is formulated in detail, the application of one-cycle control technique in APF is further researched. The one-cycle control models of single-phase parallel APF and three-phase four-wire APF are presented, then respective simulation models based on PSIM simulation software are established. Three-phase four-wire APF adopts three-arm voltage inverter to make up main circuit. It can compensate harmonic, reactive power currents in three-phase four-wire system. The simulation results verify the feasibility of with new one-cycle control, which has not only good static compensation performance but also rapid dynamic following performance. The proposed APF can effectively compensate the harmonics, reactive power currents and so on.In order to test the harmonic compensation performance of the proposed APF with one-cycle control, the experimental system is established. Aiming at the three-phase symmetrical load, the harmonic compensation performance is tested. The experiment resultsverify that the proposed APF can compensate harmonic, reactive power currents and so on.
