A Visual Communication Study On The Landscape Of Urban Street In Ancient Soochow City

From a perspective of visual communication, this paper examined the case of ancient SooChow city which has been well known for its 2500-year history and profound cultural deposits. By means of field investingating and related literature reviewing, the author analyzed the components of the landscape of urban street and generalized the application and impact of visual communication ae well as its interrelationship with people and cities. This paper was trying to bring a new way of thinking into the exploration for how harmonious landscape of urban street can be constructed and the corresponding problems in SooChow can be solved.The landscape of urban street is a multiple complex which not only consists of plentiful elements but also serves as an key conponent of the whole urban landscape, it turns out to be an important media that intensively demonstrates urban view and expresses the image of the city. Obviously, these interdisciplinary content have determined that landscape of urban street should be viewed as a systematical design rather than a work done within a single scope. Thus, employing the perspective of visual communication to examine urban street design have led to an interdisciplinary study that tends to break away those barriers between disciplines and analyze the particularity of urban street landscape as a media of visual communication via related theory. This has also made possible the inquiry of ways and principles of visual communication design in accordance with the landscape of urban street and the capture of elments and law behind the practice in designing landscape of urban street, and all of these can definitely make supplementary benefits to the improvement of designing landscape of urban street.
