The Research For The Protect And Development Of Lhasa City Identity Based On New Regional Geography

City identity is a valuable problem to think. Recently, there are many researches about city competitiveness relates to city identity. In other words, city identity forms city competitiveness to some extent. The paper uses the frame of New Regional Geography to study the process of Lhasa's city identity by analyzing both internal force("place","agent")and outside force("system").On this basis, regarding the thinking of the effect of new regional geography on human ability , their role and social structure in formation and development of regional characteristcs as the main line. We emphasize the effect human ability and their role in shaping a certain region ,and place emphasis on the influence of the development of a certain region on local people.From the ancient times, tibet protects its ethnic cultures relatively intact because of difficult natural conditions. however, with the opening of Qinghai-tibet railway, the system of Tibet transforms closeness into openness, Would the Qinghai-tibet railway be a threaten factor to the unique ethnic culture and religion ?Would the mysterious impression of Lhasa be affected?The author has looked up a large number of related papers and has got well-known various ideological trends about New Regional Geography, Through analyzing"place""agent"and"system"and realizing the threaten factors of globalization, western development and Qinghai-tibet railway road. The thesis argued that it is of great importance to protect and develop the city identity of Lhasa in the near future. At last, the thesis provides the principles and measures to protect and develop Lhasa's city identity.The main contents as follows:Part I Firstly ,the paper illustrates the background and value of this issue, and summarizes the related research on city identity from macroscopic to microscopic angle, and then, introduces related concepts and base theories on both city identity and new regional geography, at last, emphasizes the angle of new regional geography.Part II Secondly, the paper summarizes the characteristics of Lhasa, and then,analyzes both the internal factors and outside factors under the frame of new regional geography which contains"place","agent"and"system". The paper argued that"place"and"system"have effect on the"agent", On the contrary,"agent"also has effect on"place"and"system".Part III Thirdly, the city identity of Lhasa confronts with dilemmas of development, there are globalization, western development and Qinghai-tibet railway road.Part IV Fourthly, On the basement of former three sections.
