The probability of steam generator tube rupture (SGTR) during the operation of a nuclear power plant is high; there were some SGTR incidents happened during operating plants in the world. The operator is playing an important role in dealing with such incidents. Therefore, focus must be paid on the human reliability. This thesis deals with the human reliability analysis in SGTR incidents. The human action response is one of the most important factors which shall be analyzed in the probabilistic safety assessment.Firstly, actions of plant operators are identified based on the list of initiating events of SGTR, analysis of plant system and emergency operating procedures. The most important actions will be selected. The human errors as well as their effect will be defined and quantified through detailed analysis of the most important human reliabability events. The time table and information required for operators at every pregiven time point are determined from thermal-hydraulic analysis of every individual initiating event. The executing time of operators is determined through interview, simulator exercises or tests of personnel skills. The completed human error analysis is carried out and quantitative results are established to make sure it is suitable for the task characteristics, history of the plant, emergency operating procedure, operation conditions and experience. A optimized response procedure is proposed to deal with the SGTR accident through the quantitative analysis of human errors as well as the weak points of design, maintenance and operating procedure. The results achieved in this thesis are useful to training operators and for future designs.
