Daily Visitor's Activities In The Temple Of Heaven And The Management Of Their Social Space

The Temple of Heaven, which is the largest of imperial altars of China and one of the World Cultural Heritage sites, has a history of 580 years. This history includes both a 500 years'role as the imperial altar and an 80 years'role as the public park. Now it is the largest urban park of the central Beijing, an important green lung of central old city and one of the most popular recreational areas for the citizens. The citizen's activities are becoming a character of the Temple of Heaven and also the challenge for the old temple.This paper deeply investigates, analyzes and explores the existing condition, problems and future management approaches of the citizen's activities in the Temple of Heaven. This paper summarizes the whole process of the survey, including the basic survey idea, contents, methods, and the data process, and then shows and analyzes groups of survey results from two dimensions: physical and spatial carrier and the functional flow based on the Patch-Corridor-Matrix Model in Landscape Ecology. Based on above survey and analyses, this paper put forward conceptual plans of for whole Temple of Heaven and the special plan on citizen's activities, finally brings forward the Citizen Cultural Landscape: the potential value and pattern of the citizen's activities in the Temple of Heaven.This paper have accumulated large amounts of materials and data about the spot, conducted the behaviors studies in this park and the relative studies of the citizen's activities in other parks in Beijing. Furthermore, this paper summarizes the experience and lessens in the social surveys in the Temple of Heaven. Generally, all the work can provide reference for the studies of World Heritage in China and other countries.
