With rapid development of information technology and progress of society, a new concept of intelligent home which based on network gradually replaced traditional intelligent home definition. As an important sub-system of the intelligent home system, intelligent lighting system has the advantage of efficient energy conserving, easily management operating, multiform lighting controlling and especially low expending , which has potential market in China , becase it makes good use of the technology of electronic, communication network and combines different lighting implements to get efficient control and management. This paper chooses DALI system put forward lately in lighting industry as research objects. Based on the analysis of communication protocols, the intelligent illumination design scheme is brought forward and relevant products are developed. The research is significant in the situation that the development of intelligent illumination comes to be society tide. By funding experiences and rendering new means for industry developing, its significance is embodied.This paper analyzes the development history and statue of intelligent lighting system at first, and introduces several popular protocols of intelligent lighting network at present, then carries out the research on intelligent linghting system based on DALI protocol. DALI is a new protocol in the field of lighting industry, which is put forward by some European ballast manufacturers. The paper discusses the application area, configuration and electric specification, and then analyzes thoroughly the code formats, data transmission and access protocol.Based on deeply understanding of the DALI protocol, this paper finishes the design of DALI master-slave module, both of the master module and the slave module use the chip ATmega8 of Atmel as core processor. The PC software sends commands to the master module through RS232 port, and the master module transfers these commands to DALI format, and send them to the slave module, after receiving these DALI-format commands, the slave module changes the statue of fluorescent lamp through dimming ballast using 1-10V control signal. Becase the traditional DALI intelligent lighting system has two defects. One is the too small conrol scale, and another is it's difficult to achieve local distributed control. This paper carries out the two corresponding solutions. At the end of this paper, with the preparative research on three statue feedback of DALI system, a good foundation is made up for the fellow-up research.
