Nowadays, along with the comprehensive expansion of old housing alteration and the increase of structure reinforcement engineering in our country, reliability issues of the existing structure have been highly respected in the area of engineering.In this paper, the methods of deciding next use reference period are introduced, according to the characters of existing structure and considering the design reference period, serviced time and next use term of the existing structure. Meanwhile, combining common points of the reliability analysis between design structure and existing structure and based on the probability theory, statistic orderliness of load value, probability model of permanent load and variable load and the maximum load probability distribution in next use reference period are studied; the correction factors of floor live load, wind load and snow load corresponding to the extant load code are also put forward. Finally, the deducing results are applied to reliability appraisal of a real project; then, this appraisal conclusion is compared with that in term of the extant load code.This report offers a practical and reasonable method of deciding loads for reliability appraisal of the existing structure, and discusses the needful contents for future research.
