With the fast development of modern electronic industry and telecommunication industry,electronic products and electrical appliances are more and more involved in human life. People are more likely to be exposed to the environment of higher density of electromagnetism energy, which produce the electromagnetism pollution for people. The effect of electromagnetic radiation on health has been paid attention by people. Measureing and evaluating the electromagnetic radiation are considered to be a hotpot, and how to develop the portable electromagnetic radiation meter is regarded to be the most important thing.The basic measure theory and the methods of electromagnetic radiation are discussed in this paper. A novel portable environment electric field meter (EFM) based on DSP is presented. The hardware consists of the probe and the main board. The PMM EP-183S probe is chosen to measure the electric field. The main board, based on ADSP-BF533, is used to receive the data of electric-field intensity, process data, save data, display data, process key, voice alarm and instruct light, and communicate with the PC. The design method and realization technology of the main board hardware is discussed in detail.The control software was provided specifically. The software is composed of the DSP program and the PC program. The DSP program is used to control main board, which realized system control, interrupts process, EEPROM reading and writing, LCD screen display, key-process, temperature measure. The PC program is designed to realize the communication between the DSP and the PC with the self-defined serial communication protocols.Basic on accomplishing debugging of hardware and system software, function test have been done. The test results indicate that the EFM has stable, accurate, reliable performance. Moreover, it is portable, multifunctional, and extendable.
