With the development of the Virtual Reality (VR) Technology, the request of the interactive capability for the VR prototype system is more and more high. To provide the crane operator a more real training environment and improve the training quality, the author attempts to add the data glove as the most important human-computer interactive tool to the container crane simulator system which has been developed by Marine Simulation and Control lab of Dalian Maritime University . Therefore ,this paper takes the virtual hand based on the data glove as the study object, studies and discusses the fundamental theories and implementations of the data glove interactive technology.The work of this paper involves:a. It introduces the constitution and function of the container crane simulator system. It mainly discusses the principles and functions of the data glove, then selects the 5DT Data Glovel4 Ultra as the study object according to the features of the main data glove products and the VR system.b. It studies the motion mapping from the human hand to the virtual hand. In this part, firstly, it studies the anatomic structure and motion features of the human hand. On the basis of this, it establishes the virtual hand model using Multigen Creator, and studies the method of obtaining the motion information of the joints in the virtual hand from the data glove.c. It studies the method of the data glove interactive module designing based on VTree. In this part, firstly, it introduces the scene management tool-VTree, and analyzes the interactive process based on the data glove. It focuses on the method of virtual hand driving and interactive with the data glove.This paper develops the interactive module for data glove, and accomplishes the motion mapping from the human hand to the virtual hand using 5DT Data Glove 14 Ultra under Visual C++ and Windows system. The prototype of the container crane simulator system has been adoping the real interactive interface to offer the interactive means.The paper attempts to apply the data glove to the container crane simulator system to offer another means of interactive interface. It aims to accumulate experience by comparison and lays the foundation for the deep research.
