Due to the internal need of transforming the college teaching mode, and the external environment of expanding the popularity of higher education at a large scale, universities and colleges in China have carried new features in their development. And this produces new demands for the campus environment, such as raising the efficiency of land use, integrating campus space and environment. Meanwhile, the modern concept of higher education has undergone profound changes. The education mode has changed from isolation to openness. The campus interpersonal communication has also developed into a pluralistic interaction of students, teachers and society. The change of concept has stimulated a new recognition and reconstruction of the campus space and environment. The external space material and spiritual benefits has become more and more important. An elegant campus, rich in culture, having reasonable traffic and space where people can have free exchange, will give a great and inestimable influence on teachers and students, which has also guaranteed the vitality or energy of universities. The campus environment is made up of external space and buildings. With the socio-economic development and educational philosophy on campus, the construction has played an increasingly prominent role. In the new century, it is of great importance how to adapt to the development of international situation and create a poetic construction of the colleges to embody the connotation of education for designers.This text, based on environmental psychology, campus planning, and ecological theory, tries to give a profound analysis on the color of the college campus buildings and put forward the principals and ways of management that designers should follow. The article is divided into four parts to analyze and study contemporary campus building colors. It first discusses color theory and the requirements of building campus. It analyzes these basic elements of location, environment, function and characteristics of the colleges and universities. Then it takes Shandong College of Arts and Design as an example. The new campus building of the school is planned to use red as main color dotted by white and grey in its outside appearance. The changes of colors highlight the desire of open mind to avoid a visual sense of closure from outside. The design defines the various plots and the construction of main and secondary colors, and makes the adjacent buildings to maintain the continuity of the colors. The difference and individuality, reconciliation and conflicts are considered to reflect the creative vitality of campus through the logic combination of colors.In a word, this text, by studying the various elements of college campus buildings and the relationship among them, taking human feelings on the environment as a basic starting point, and outstanding engineering an example, tells a holistic, open, timing and ecological integration to sort out the construction and reconstruction of campus color function and morphology, to establish a campus rich in color and more space, and to realize the harmonious development of man and environment.
