The car of Passat SVW7183AGi is taken as the prototype vehicle, and is transformed to a parallel hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), in this paper, choice of the car's drivetrain is made, the transmission is modeled and simulated and the research on the system's efficiency is made.Drivetrain of hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) have 3 basic configurations: series, parallel and parallel plus series, based on the three kind's characteristic and the parameter of the prototype car, parallel is chosen as the car's drivetrain configuration, and the engine and electric motor's type and parameter is given based on the prototype car's parameter. The mathematic model of the transmission system is established according to the choice of the drivetrain, the essential part is a power split system using planet gears, and based on the mathematic model, the 3D model is established in SolidWorks, the rotate under different working condition is simulated.Using virtual prototyping technology software ADAMS to simulate the transmission system. 3D model is imported to ADAMS, the simulation and analysis of the 4 working conditions—acceleration, cruises, braking & slowdown and FUD72 is made. The simulation result reflects the matching condition between engine and electric motor. In this paper, the longitudinal dynamics of the PHEV under different working condition is analyzed; a study on fuel-saving mechanism for HEV is made; it points out that cycle working condition and controlling strategy can affect the system efficiency; the concept of hybrid rate is proposed, and the relationship between system efficiency, hybrid rate and transmission rate is educed. The hybrid rate represent the ratio between electric motor's output power and engine's output power, it has great influence on the system efficiency.
