As one of the most important factors which influenced the machining quality, machine cutting chatter has aroused extensive concern. Combining with National Natural Science Foundation of China -"Research on theory and technique of magnetorheological (MR) intelligent boring bar with self-chatter-suppression" (NO. 50405036), this dissertation deals with the automatic chatter control and suppression of the MR intelligent boring bar. In this dissertation, the MR fluid is applied to the chatter suppression, and an intelligent boring bar is designed and manufactured. Then the chatter suppression strategy of the boring bar is analyzed, and a control system including the software and hardware parts for the boring bar is designed. Finally, a chatter control experiment is carried on for the intelligent boring bar.In chapter 1, the researches on cutting chatter control are. introduced from home and abroad. And the significance of this dissertation is explained. Then the application of the MR fluid technology to vibration control is analyzed, and the major contents of this dissertation are declared.In chapter 2, the chatter suppression technique of the intelligent boring bar is analyzed, and the structure and development of the intelligent boring bar are proposed.In chapter 3, a kinetic model of the intelligent boring bar is established , then an experiment about its dynamic characteristics is made and the simulation of its chatter control is also studied. The experimental and simulation results show that the inherent frequency of the boring bar can be changed by controlling the magnetic field, and the boring bar's chatter can be controlled by adjusting its inherent frequency effectively.In chapter 4, the control system of the intelligent boring bar is designed which includes the software and hardware parts.In chapter 5, an experiment for controlling the chatter of the intelligent boring bar is carried on, which can not only study the function of the stiffness adjustment and the effect of the chatter suppression, but also validate the chatter control strategy.At the end, the main conclusion of this dissertation is summarized, and some outlook is raised for the further work.
