With the rapid development of science and technology, especially the continuous appearance of new material and the rapid development of computers and communication technology, the principle and method of displacement measurement has a continuous development and renewal. Meanwhile, production process puts forward higher and higher requirement of displacement measurement. For example, in the process of high-accuracy movement control of large-scale hydraulic cylinder piston, the traditional method such as the guyed type, the capacitive type, the inductance type and the grating type can not meet the requirement of high precision, large measurement range and low cost. The introduction of magnetostriction solves this problem well. Compared with traditional sensors, the magneto-strictive displacement sensor has the advantage of high precision, large measurement range, good safety, high reliability, easy in installation and maintenance.Paper is aimed at the research and development of a magnetostrictive displacement sensor for the high precision and real-time measurement of piston in hydrocylinder system. By looking up large amount of material, the principle of displacement measurement of magnetostrictive sensor is specified, which means that the displacement measurement is converted to the time detecting and can get displacement measurement with high precision by adopting high-resolution time detecting.Paper makes software and hardware design of magnetostrictive displacement sensor based on digital signal processors. Hardware design of the system includes pulse launching circuit, echo receiving circuit, counter circuit, level converting circuit, liquid crystal display circuit, serial communication circuit, simulation interface circuit and so on.System software is designed on CCS, the developing platform of DSP, including initialization module, watchdog module, counter module, serial-communication module and display module.After circuit design and software programming, the system is set up and tested. Experiment result demonstrates that the system runs reliably with high measuring accuracy, simple structure, moderate cost. It satisfies the requirements for production and has a high application value.
