Leaky coaxial cable(LCX in short) has been widely used in wireless communicaiton in the areas such as mines, subways, tunnels, buildings and some other blind zones. Therefore, people have being put more and more attention on the research of electric characteristics and design of leaky caoxial cable.At first, this paper briefly introduced the development and basic knowledge of leaky coaxial cable, and then explain the physical configuration, category and several related important electric parameters of LCX. According to the structure of LCX, we explore its radiation principle and analyse its radiation model. By using cylindrical fourier transform, we obtain the radiation fields of LCX in free space baced on field distribution on the outer conductor. After that, this paper detailedly analyses the measure methods and calculating method of the coupling loss which is the most important electric parameter of LCX., and presents a method of calculating coupling loss of LCX with different slots structure in free space and the affecting factors of coupling loss. At last, it briefly illustrates how to improve the coupling loss under certain conditions and discusses the relationship between the coupling loss and radiating loss.
