In this paper, modern design method of pump was used to accomplish the system of main recycle pump in reactor of nuclear submarine, and then predicted the global performance of main pump and circulating system with CFD method.This paper used pump CAD software"PUMPCAD"to design impellers and guide blades, in order to analysis flow pattern in pumps, STAR-CD code was selected, the results were considered as the factor to evaluate and modify wings'performance. The method that combining CAD & CFD together in pumps raised efficiency of designing consumedly, shortened the product development period.Dynamic characteristics of main circulating pump in improper work conditions were mostly important to the security in reactor, but it cost much with traditional experiments. This paper emphasized the theory of runaway speed in axial pumps by numerical simulation, and then calculated loss coefficient of the axial pump as flowing parts in abnormal work condition. The results indicated that, in pumps hydraulic loss was basically proportional to the square of flowing speed (flux).It is a requirement for water flowing through main recycle pump of submarine reactor to keep the least drag force in natural circulation and accident condition. Generally, valves are installed at the inlet and outlet of main pump to achieve the requirement. These valves make the drag force computation complex. Drag force character of system, which is composed with main pump, valves and pipes, are simulated in this paper. Result shows that it is effective to install valves to reduce drag force when impeller is locked. But if the impeller is rotating, total drag coefficient is not reduced because of big drag coefficient of valves. Finally, an improved suggestion is brought forward. However, considering insufficient time, the problem is not deeply investigated in this paper.Moreover, this paper embodied fore treatment works in CFD, and given a detailed introduction of grids treatment on rotary machine in actual engineering applications.
