1547 kilometers freeway opened to traffic have been constructed in Guangxi Province, among these 1176 kilometers are cement concrete pavement. As utility time goes on, with the rapid development of economy and under the influence of overweight vehicles, some driveway pavement of freeway appeared widespread damage and travelling comfort has been greatly reduced, many sections of freeway are in urgent need of maintenance and reconstruction.Therefore, it is necessary to research on the design of overlay on old cement concrete pavement of freeway in Guangxi.The paper is based on the pavement reconstruction project of the freeway from Guangxi Liuzhou to Nanning ("LiuNan" for short), and conduct investigations and research on embankment, pavement, drainage, etc.and damaged conditions, traffic conditions and the usage in current situation.The paper analyses the main factors that caused the damage of cement concrete pavement of the main factors, integrated with realities of Guangxi, refers to the implementation effects of sections that have been covered with asphalt concrete overlay, divides sections standardized on the level of assessment of damaged conditions of pavement, takes the deflection as controlling indicator for design, from improving the durability of the use of pavement and reducing project cost, takes the full account of the simplication in construction process and the entirety continuity of overlay pavement structure, research es on different design plan of overlay, and advances a relatively reasonable design plan. The achievements in the research have guided the the pavement reconstruction project of the freeway from Guangxi Liuzhou to Nanning.
