Car body design is a key technology. In this paper, the structural performance of a certain improved military vehicle was studied by means of FEM (Finite Element Method) and experimentation. After computation by FEM (Finite Element Method), the structural strength and rigid was obtained when the vehicle was fully loaded in the situation of bending, torsion and brake, at the same time, the distribution of stress and distortion was analyzed in the important location of the body and the frame, on this basis, the influence of car skin was studied on the vehicle structural performance and the intrinsic characteristic of the vehicle was also analyzed by means of FE and mode experimentation. Here are main research results and new ideas in this paper: (1)the stress level of the body is the highest in the situation of torsion, and the braking situation secondary, then the situation of bending when fully loaded, The results show that the torsion was the most dangerous one; (2)the car skin can improve the distribution of stress to some extent and avail the enhancement of anti-torsion and anti-bend ability; (3)the intrinsic characteristic of car body was studied through mode calculating in theoretical aspect as well as by experimentation and they are effective methods to improve the dynamic performance of vehicle.The main new ideas lies in that the CAD as well as the CAE technology was used together in this paper, which ensure the accuracy of the analytical model and the influence of car skin on the body stress was also studied, which apply the reference for the vehicle structural design to some extent.
