The durability of concrete has been the hot issue of the current structural engineering. The neglecting of the issue has led to great financial losses and negative effects on the whole society because the lost of concrete durability and it does not function any more after they are put into use for 30 to 40 years and sometimes even just for 10 to 20 years. There are several factors which are destructive to the durability of concrete. The basic reason is the steel corrosion which mainly results from chloride ingress. Therefore, it is of great significance to carry out the research of the durability of concrete in the chloride environment. The paper first discusses the significance of the durability of concrete and mainly introduces the hazard of chloride ingress, the erosion mechanism; chloride ingress models; and the comparison of the detective methods of the chloride ingress coefficient together with the comparative research of RCM method as follows:1,The significance of the durability of concrete and the analysis of the hazard to the concrete caused by chloride are brief introduced.2,The mechanism of chloride erosion and the mechanism of chloride ion action on steel bar are analyzed. Inner and outer factors having an effect on erosion speed of chloride ion and its impacting law are detailed introduced, at the same time this paper provided scientific advice for the durability design of reinforced concrete.3,The main test methods for chloride ion Chloride diffusion coefficient are detailed introduced, the advantages and disadvantages are analyzed and compared. The paper point out their merits and demerits and the ways to choice the suitable method based on the characteristics of concrete.4,Two usual preprocessing methods for chloride ion Chloride diffusion coefficient are treating the concrete samples by vacuum water-saturation or salt-saturation or ultrasonic bath. The experiment indicated the result was similar.5,RCM method as a main test method of concrete durability has been a world-wide implemented. The rationality of the method has been proven by more and more experts. However, personal error during the test may affect the experiment results accurately. To compare testing the sample obtained differently, it shows that the different ways of obtaining samples will affect the result of RCM experiments and analyze the causes and put forward some suggestion of reasonable experiments.
