Recently, the blackout happened frequently around the world, which has the relation with the relay protection. Especially, when the power network supplied to a heavy load, the relay protection has the hidden fault problem, which can lead a mis-operation and trigger the consequent protection operation, at last, the blackout happened. While the measurements of relay protection equipment cannot be visual and the curve of fault measurements is hard to observe, it is really difficult to find the fault causes. The paper does researches on two theses: the relay online protection system and real time simulating protection technology.Firstly, the paper proposes a relay protection importance analysis method, considering the hidden fault, to find the weakest point in power relay protection. Then an intelligent alarm protection system is built to get rid off the relay protection problem when heavy loading. The paper uses the PSS/E platform to solve the model. On the dispatch center, the fault information system of center calculates power system's flow through contingency screening and the correction of voltage and current to fault systems of sub in substations. The systems of sub send for the values of protection's settings and analogs of real-time to complete on-line verification. There are two advantages of this module. One is that the communication of information between dispatch center and substations is little and the other is that the module adopts parallel computation .The power system real time digital simulator (RTDS) is very popular in China. The problem of RTDS is lack of protection model. The paper uses the CSC-100B digital super high voltage line protection simulating system, which is developed by Sifang Company, not only to testify the correction of intelligent alarm protection system, but also to be a part function to RTDS. The promising model can apply to the real time simulation of microprocessor-based protection, cooperate the operators with the after-accident analysis.
