Since underground buildings can help protecting natural ecological environment while not making any changes to the local territory, preserving historical districts, and also saving urban space in central city district, they are now rapidly developing.Beginning with the concept of underground architecture, this thesis sums up the potential advantages and disadvantages of it and the physiological and psychological influence on the occupants. This thesis then expatiates how daylight helps to express the volume, the details, and the interior space of a building as a dynamic factor, and how it influences the exterior forms or interior space through functional needs of daylighting and shading, and therefore, how it influences physiologically and psychologically on people. After studying these influences on the occupants of various kinds of buildings, the thesis then explains the psychological influences of the underground buildings on people and the reason leads to them, which proves the huge effects of daylighting on resolving the psychological problems.Learning from the use of daylight and summarizing the daylighting patterns in underground buildings in history and throughout the world, the thesis focuses on how to introduce daylight and external views downward through the design of the volume and windows of the building, and how to avoid the negative feelings toward "going down" by designing the entrance of the building together with sunken plazas, and therefore, how to improve the physical and psychological quality of the underground architecture.
