Problem-solving Oriented Research On The Urban Master Planning In The New Era

In the last two decades, with reform and open-door policy, our country's economy keeps growing at a fast pace, stimulating constant urban development. As a result, the traditional urban planning system under central-planning economy is no longer adequate, calling for more scientific and efficient approach. Since late 1990s, many researchers have worked on this area, and brought up valuable ideas and proposals.In this paper, we focused on the latest urban planning of Zhengzhou city, and did a careful study of the most relevant and urgent topics. Our goal is to provide a blueprint for the new development plan of the city. Our main points are as following:1. We studied systematically the historical evolution of Zhengzhou's urban planning, analyzed detailed historical data since 1927. This provides a solid background for any new design and development.2. In the new era, Zhengzhou city is facing many changes in legal system, economic growth, local government policy, as well as spatial restriction. Impacts from these changes on the city planning have been analyzed.3. In addition, more challenges lie ahead, including limited urban construction area, increased responsibility of local zone, harmonic development of urban and rural areas. Proper answer to these challenges is imperative for the continuing growth of Zhengzhou city.4. Faced with these urgent problems and new challenges, we proposed appropriate responses and policies. These ideas set up a new framework of overall urban planning, and meet the ever-increasing demand for city development in our new era.
