Taizhou City is a new combined coastal city in the middle of Zhejiang Province. After putting forward the strategy of strengthening marine market, Taizhou devotes itself to the development of shipbuilding, and take it as one of the three new industries and have made the industry plan for it. With the pushing from market and driving by government, shipbuilding in Taizhou develops rapidly. At present, the indexes of shipbuilding and lay-up, tonnage, ship varieties, shipbuilding capacity, and annual production of non-governmental shipbuilding yards in Taizhou rank the first in the province and the top in our country. There are 28 shipbuilding yards along both sides of Jiaoling River, and the tonnage for a single vessel is over 30,000 tons.Channel Grade of Jiaoling River is low, and net clearance dimension of cross-river bridge aslo limits the navigation ability to large-scale ships. Actually, channel depth and width have changed a lot due to sand excavation and flood and the like, and navigation ability of the channel has improved. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate and study the actual navigation ability.Based on the actual research to Jiaoling River Channel, and the combination of the valid specifications in home and abroad, this paper focuses on the analysis of the elements that influence the ship navigation ability, such as width, water depth, bending radius and net clearance dimension of cross-river building. The channel width for ships with different tonnages is caculated by the means of mathematical model of navigation width, calculation formula of additional depth, calculation formula to navigation net clearance of cross sea or River Bridge, and the maximum dimension of the known navigation width is also made in the present paper based on the above formulas. The Jiaoling River is divided into five navigation sections according to the situation of cross-river Bridge on Jiaoling River Channel. Based on different conditions of each navigation section, the maximum navigable ship dimension of upper river of Yongtaiwen Highway and that of Yongtaiwen Highway Bridge is made. Meanwhile, the maximum navigable ship dimenion of of upper river of Yongtaiwen Railway Lingjiang Speical Large Bridge and that of Yongtaiwen Railway Lingjiang Speical Large Bridge, the navigable ship dimenion of upper river of Taijin Highway Bridge and that of Taijin Highway Bridge, the maximum navigable ship dimension of upper section of Jiao River Bridge and that of Jiao River Bridge, and the navigable ship dimension of lower section of Jiao River Bridge and that of Jiao River Bridge are all made in the present paper.Through the combination of theoretical analysis and actual research condition, and based on the latest channel data on width and water depth, a feasible navigation specification of Jiaoling River Channel is made. This specification helps to ensure the safety of Jiaoling River and solve the problem of safety and economic development.
