The marine valve remote control and level gauging system, as a new technology of automation of marine engineering, has been widely used on building ships. However, there are few teaching materials about this system in maritime schools and scientific research institutions. In the systems of marine engine simulator, the marine valve remote control and level gauging system is mainly on software simulation and has no console. In this case, it is difficult to satisfy the requirements of teaching and training. It will take a lot of time for marine engineers to acquaint themselves with the system. Consequently, it is practical and significant to design the simulation system with functions, which is used on teaching and training.This thesis is based on marine valve remote control and level gauging system of the new training ship "YU KUN" vessel of Dalian Maritime University. The composition and working principle of the marine valve remote control and level gauging system applied on this vessel has been analyzed deeply. In this foundation, combined with the technology of PLC, OPC and Computer Interface Simulation, we have designed marine valve remote control and level gauging simulation system.The simulation system is composed of hardware and software and it is the first time to compound hardware with software. On the hardware, Using Siemens S7-200 PLC which has been applied widely in the field of automation, combined with technology of OPC, we have developed OPC client which can get datas from OPC server and realized the communication between PLC and computer. With VisualStudio.NET 2005 and the programming language Visual C#, the software of simulation system also has been developed, which realized all kinds of function of valve remote control and level gauging simulation system such as the logic of valve control and pipe fluid. On the other hand, we can get ballast tank water volume and level through the mathematic model we have developed.The whole simulation system is of function to train the students majoring in marine engineering and seafarers. Moreover, more perfect solutions can be applied to real marine valve remote control and tank measurement system based on the simulation system.
