With the car keeping number increased, the rate of traffic accident has rising greatly and become one of the main public dangers of the world. Many country, including USA,JAPAN,EUROPE, have established strictly rules and regulations on safety to confront with the trouble caused by traffic accident. At the same time, these foreign countries have carried out the research work on vehicle safety early in the 1960th and achieved rapid development. Along with the implement of the safety regulations and the development of vehicle safety research, the death rate of traffic accident has been reduced greatly in many countries. In our country, the traffic accident rate is rising year by year along with the increment of car keeping number, especially in 1970th. In recent years, because of the rapid increment of car keeping number, the traffic accident becoming more and more serious. The problem of vehicle safety has become one of the factors which limit the healthy development of transportation and vehicle industry in China.The vehicle safety research includes passive safety and active safety. The passive safety is also named as impact safety. In order to reduce the traffic accident and the human injury in traffic accident, every country has formulated the laws on the vehicle safety. Some vehicle companies and research institutions have given a special study on that. The vehicle collision test is the main method in the vehicle safety research. The vehicle impact safety is mainly depending on the structural safety and the passenger protection system.The study of passive safety in our country started lately compared to other countries, until the end of 1980. In recent years, foreign countries have carried out a fully research on vehicle side impact principle and vehicle structure, however our country has only carried out the frontal impact principle and vehicle frontal structure. Because we have implemented the side impact regulations, so the study of side impact principle and the body structure has become necessary and urgent. Try to reduce the vehicle mass and emission by using the reasonable structure and high-performance materials while satisfy the passive safety requirement. We need realize custom process and reducing cost using rational technology at the same time. While the most important thing is try to merge the CAE of side impact into the vehicle design.This thesis takes a car development project of FAW R&D as example to give a study on car impact influence caused by the material characteristics.1. Giving an analysis on present situation of the side impact regulations of our country and the foreign counties.2. using the vpg program to establish a model and give a simulation to the side impact model.3. give an analysis on the deformation and acceleration of car body by using the real impact test and the simulation.4. give a research on the influence of the material in the car impact by using the simulation.
