High-rise structures are vulnerable to wind-induced vibration because of their height and great flexibility, which may cause risks in structural strength and comfort. A control system installed at proper position of the structure could suppress the vibration response considerably. With a TV tower under construction taken as an engineering background, the structural control theory and optimal parameters ofpassive control systems are studied in this paper. Finally, some advices for the control system design are suggested. The main research work is summarized as follows:(1). Vibration response analysis of high-rise structures in frequency domain. The dynamic response of the TV tower subjected to wind loads of different return period and attack angle was analyzed. The contribution of modes to vibration response was discussed.(2). Comfort due to wind induced vibration. Development and current situation of research in the comfort of high-rise structures were introduced. Meanwhile, constraints about the comfort of high-rise structures in different codes were presented. According to the constraints, acceleration response of the top of the main structure was beyond the comfort level.(3). Vibration control theory of high-rise structures. A structure model with TMDs installed at different positions was established and a computer program was arranged based on this model. The analysis was in frequency domain and multi-mode was taken into account.(4). Parameter optimization of passive control system. Optimal parameters of STMD and MTMD for the wind induced vibration control of the TV tower were studied with numerical simulation method. Displacement control and acceleration control were analyzed respectly. As in the acceleration response the contribution of higher modes couldn't be neglected, the whole control mass was divided according to the acceleration response of each mode.(5). Advices about the control system design. The two kinds of control system, STMD and MTMD, each had its own advantages and disadvantages. In the designing period, a proper control system could be determined on the basis of detailed demands of the structure and the research results of this paper.
