With the development of CMOS Image Sensor (CIS) technology,CIS has been applied to the domain of space exploration such as camerasfor remote sensing images star trackers. The researches on commercialCIS could facilitate the R & D on the CIS imaging system, which will beof great benefit to designs on the relevant aerospace equipment.This thesis presents the history, features and the cardinal principlesof CIS. The comparisons between CIS and CCD are also introduced.Then an experimental system is proposed, in which the image sensor isIBISS-A-1300 manufactured by Fil 1Factory NV. Based on the researcheson its unique rolling shutter and synchronous shutter and the analysis ofits timing diagram, the timing control is realized on the CPLD viaVHDL. As of hardware design, the separation of the imaging part andthe controlling part, two layers of PCB and the stable supply voltageoutputted by Low Dropout regulators are applied to make this system becharacteristic of high integrated quality, reliability and flexibility.At last, the thesis indicates the deficiencies in the system and how toimprove its performance. This system will be a useful reference for othersimilar systems in this domain.
