The reactive power optimization is an efficient method to guarantee the system's security and economically running and an important approach of decreasing the active power loss and enhancing the voltage quality. The reactive power optimization is finding the suitable compensation place, by adjusting the generator bus voltages, transformer taps and reactive power compensation capacities in the condition of power load requirement, to decreasing the transmission active power loss and keeping reactive power balance on site.In 1984, Karmarkar found a new optimization algorithm can be used in reactive power optimization field——interior point method, which has polynomial time complexity and it's iteration is independent of the system's size. Primal-dual path following algorithm is a sort of interior point method, which use the logarithm barrier and the Newton method in linear programming, compare with other interior point method, this algorithm possesses fast convergence speed, good robustness and better developing tendency.This paper establish a reactive power optimization linear model bases on the primal-dual path following algorithm, reducing control variable step every iteration to solve the problem of instability and make it's convergence speed steadily. Based on the proposed algorithm, practical program is made by MATLAB language, applied to the IEEE 30-bus system shows that it is practical, reliable and effective.This paper has analyses the character and the configuration of Heilongjiang system, choose the bigger power loss sensitivity index towards reactive power as the reactive power optimization place. Optimizing the Heilongjiang system by the proposed program by adjusting the generator bus voltage and the reactive compensation capacities in system to decrease the power losses and enhance the voltage quality, we have received optimal result at end.
