In order to reduce the harm aroused by plane sliding out of the runway, Dalian airportnot only sets the runway, but also sets the runway strip which is very expansive around therunway. For the economical reason, if such expansive ground entirely made by concrete asrunway isn't viable and necessary. In another hand, considering the virescence of airport,general measure is using filled soil at the bottom which covered with lawn on the top. Thisarea is not only very expansive, but also is very important to the airport. As for Dalian airport,this area is more than 500 thousand square meter in proportion.A certain compactness and bearing capacity is requested by the function of runway strip,but at present there is no code or standard about runway strip construction quality which isdefinite and unified, and in different airport the kinds of filled soil are also different, so thereis no successful experience to be referenced. Through researching, the area of runway strip isvery expansive, but the filled soil is basically unchangeable. This provides very convenientcondition to carry on laboratory tests of filled soil and study its character of intensity anddeformation.The characters of Dalian airport filled soil in compaction, intensity and deformation areinvestigated in this text, and especially emphases focus on the effect of compactness andmoisture content on the character of intensity and deformation. In this text, the effect ofcompaction energy grade, soil-prepared method, soil used repeatedly and sample size on thecompaction test results are also compared. Except researches mentioned above, theimpermeability of Dalian airport filled soil is studied in this text also, and the approximatelyrange of bearing capacity is given based on construction base code.It is showed that the shear strength indices and the resistant capacity to compressdeformation of Dalian airport filled soil both enhance under the condition that the moisturecontent are 12.5% and 17.5%, when the value of compactness increases. When compactnessexceeds a specific point, the changing trend of compression coefficient and angle of internalfriction turn to stable, and the value tend to a constant, while the changing trend of cohesionturn to faster. The shear strength indices and the resistant capacity to compress deformation ofDalian airport filled soil both reduce under the condition that the compactness is 0.87, whenthe value of moisture content increases. It is also showed that there is a kind of size effect in the compaction test results, and the size of sample effects on the compaction test results in acertain degree. But there is no direct relationship between compaction energy grade andcompacted soil intensity. If the physical state(dry density and moisture content)of soil whichcompacted under different compaction energy grade are similar, the intensity indices andresistant capacity to compress deformation don't enhance with the compaction energy gradeincreasing.
