As its advantages of good flexibility, hovering and hedgehopping easily, unmanned helicopter has a wide application foreground in both military and civil field. Unmanned helicopter is a typical multi-output system, includes many special characteristics, such as coupling, non-stability and non-minimum phase. The design of the flight control system of Unmanned helicopter needs many knowledge, includes flying mechanics,sensor theory,computer technology,autocontrol theory,system simulation and etc.An unmanned helicopter with special aerodynamics configuration was researched in this paper. This unmanned helicopter can be used as an all-purpose flight control platform and can perform different flight tasks. This paper researched the unmanned helicopter's flight controlling project, controlling rule, controlling loop and realizing, applied them to the practical flight control system.This paper analyzed the characteristics, control tasks and blue print of the flight control system, both PID control scheme and LQ scheme were used to design the flight controller based on the hover model. The two schemes both acquired good simulation effect and the PID control scheme was used successfully in real system. Hovering control and ground measurement & control system were also discussed on detail in the paper. The flight control simulation system was designed, based on the simulation system digital simulation and hardware in loop simulation including virtual controller, sensor and executor were carried out.The near ground flight and practical flying-test of the unmanned helicopter had been undergone, the results demonstrated that the requirements of the flight controller for the unmanned helicopter were satisfied.
