The plane gate is the earliest and most widely used kind of gate in water power engineering. Because of the complexity of the structure and working conditions of the plane gate, there exists many security and stability problems in the application. For example, vibration often occurs when the plane gate is opened , closed or part-opened, and even sometimes under the completely closed condition. In some cases, the vibration of plane gate is so severe that the dynamic failure takes place. So in light of the project value and theoretical significance, it is important to study the autooscillation characteristic of the plane gate experimentally, and make the numerical analysis of the plane gate considering liquid-solid coupling effect.The autooscillation characteristic of plane gate are studied by means of both model test and numerical analysis methods, according to the problems in projects based on the research project operated by Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute .Firstly, through the hydro-power model, the information of fluctuating pressure in plane gate is obtained and the characteristic of hydrodynamic pressure in plane gate is studied; By using hydro-elastic model, the nature frequencies of plane gate are measured and the autooscillation characteristic is studied. Then, with the FEM software ANSYS, the FEM model is established for certain plane gate, and the autooscillation characteristic is calculated. The results are compared with that of the model test, in order to prove the reliability of the numerical analysis method. And the autooscillation characteristic of the plane gate is further analyzed in different kinds of circumstance, and the influences by the lateral constraints, opening magnitude of the gate and liquid-solid coupling effect are discussed.Finally, combined with projects, some conclusions are made to the investigation of autooscillation characteristic of plane gate by model test and numerical analysis methods, as a reference for the design of project.
