Along with the western region development strategy implementation, our country has been the largest in size of dam building in the world. Now, there are many 300 m-grade- high arch dams in building or are to build.The earthquake-resistance safety of the high arch dam is the key technical issues in the hydropower projects in recent years. Considering the particularity of the high arch dam's dynamic response in the strong earthquake, this thesis adopts 3D finite element numerical simulation to research as following:Firstly, this paper discusses the free vibration of the structure with coupling between fluid and rock and Westergaard-adding mass method by water to reach the free vibration of Wudongde arch dam. Based on the two methods, the paper has done the dynamic response spectrum analysis separately and compared the results with the two methods.Secondly, the paper uses Wudongde arch dam or the three dimensional finite element models and discusses the effect of three factors on earthquake-resistance safety evaluation for high arch dam. They are dynamic dam-water-interaction, the radiation damping induced of foundation and the vertical contraction joints.Finally, some valuable conclusions which provide reasonable reference for the design and construction of the dam were obtained from the calculation and analysis of the seismic response of Wudongde arch dam following the proposed method. The dam-water-foundation interaction and the nonlinearity of the real layout contraction joints were taken into account.
