Research And Design Of Coriolis Mass Flowmeter Communicator

Flow is an important factor which should be concerned in industry, so people invent many flowmeter based on various of measuring method.Among these, Coriolis Mass Flowmeter (CMF) is a mass flow meter widely used for mass flow measuring in the world. Coriolis Mass Flowmeter (CMF) is often composed of two parts: a Transmitter(fixed part for mass flow measuring) and a Communicator(portable hand-held device for data acquisition).Because of some traditional reasons, the Communicator based on HART protocol occupies the most of the flowmeter Communicator market. From a new point of view, this paper introduces in detail the research and design of the CMF Communicator based on USB protocol. The Communicator is designed with a popular CPU with ARM core—S3C44B0X. It takes a structure called "Minimum System and Main Board" to design system hardware. It extends a CF card as storage module to store measured data. On the aspect of software, it implements a simple embedded system and a FAT file system based CF card to be compatible with Windows file system. It accomplishes it's U-disk function by communicating with PC through Mass Storage protocol . Therefore, the Communicator acts as two different roles: the USB Host as it communicates with Transmitter, and USB device as it communicates with PC.Through testing and comparing, the communication between the Communicator based on USB protocol and Transmitter has no effect on measuring accuracy of mass flow. Compared with Communicator based on Hart protocol, it greatly improve the communication speed and shorten the command response time. What's more, due to the USB feature of plugging and playing, it can be conveniently used to communicate with Transmitter and exchange data with PC. In a word, the Communicator based on USB protocol is worth spreading in industry application.
