By researching the 973 National Research Project, the Basis of the Similarity of Modern Design Application Software, this thesis provides theoretical and technical support towards the sub-project which was taken charge by Hunan University, known as the Aid System for Professional Industrial Design Knowledge. The thesis mainly focuses on the settlement of qualitatively and quantitatively transforming model among the process of solving the design problems, then uses it as a problem solving mechanism to build an automobile design prototype system based on present cases——CBAS(Case-based Automotive Styling)systerm.The content of this thesis is firstly researching the application of the qualitative and quantitative method in the process of solving the design problems. Bases on the analysis of qualitative and quantitative method and by discussing the process and essence of design problems solving, the thesis establishes a rationally and sensibly integrated design problem solving model and discusses the relationship with the analysis of qualitative and quantitative method. Towards the uncertainty of the settlement of qualitative and quantitative model, this thesis secondly uses the cloud model as a qualitative and quantitative mechanism to solve the design problems. Finally, the thesis also gives some advices of how to integrate the mechanism with the CBAS system.In addition, the thesis also provides an integration of problem domain D and solving domain S in order to find the integrated domain U space of design problem solving. The integrated domain U space which based on the automobile model design also composes by different design cases. Each case not only has the corresponding conception, but also has the corresponding features and attributes. The solving mechanism from problem domain D to solving domain S in design problem solving is climbing or dropping of the Extensive Concept Tree which constituted by Cloud Model's piling.
