The Method For Integrating Qualitative Analysis And Quantitative Analysis In War Design Engineering

War Design Engineering (WDE) is an engineering method for analyzing and designing the future war complex system. The basic idea of WDE is to integrate the wisdom of domain experts and design the strategies for future information war by integrating qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis integrated methods, so as to create new strategies for direct the development of tactics and equipment. Based on future scenario, WDE designs future strategies, which impact current development of tactics and equipment. The new development of tactics and equipment can impact the future scenario in turn, thus the process is to accelerate the improvement of group cognition and the integration for strategy and future scenario through iterative analysis. Also, the integration of group expert wisdom, the integration of qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis, and the integration of tactics and equipment are included. They are the four integration problems in WDE.Qualitative and quantitative integration analysis has grain increasing attention of the experts in all over the world, but new methodology is still under research. As one of the four integrations in WDE, qualitative and quantitative integration analysis is a critical technique support for WDE, and also important to the development of case study. Therefore, the investigation in this paper has great practical and theoretical value. Based on the methodology of WDE, the framework for qualitative and quantitative integration analysis in WDE is presented, in which the logic basic, the expert cooperation basic and the content coordination basic are studied systematically. The main contents and fruits of this paper are outlined as follows:Firstly, the basic theory of WDE is introduced systematically, such as the basic idea of WDE, the concepts, the four integrations and the four-dimension framework of WDE.Secondly, the framework for qualitative and quantitative integration analysis in WDE is developed. As one of the four integrations in WDE, qualitative and quantitative integration analysis provides technique supports for other integrations, which is reflected in the framework. The three-dimension framework for qualitative and quantitative integration analysis is as follows: the logic basic reflects the analysis content allocation and cooperation of qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis in a logic view; the expert cooperation basic reflects how to integrate wisdom effectively through qualitative and quantitative analysis methods; the content coordination basic reflects the analysis content allocation and cooperation of qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis in the producing process of new strategies.Thirdly, the logic basic for qualitative and quantitative integration analysis is presented, which investigates the analysis content allocation and cooperation of qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis in a logic view. The logic process contains seven phases. The missions, logic relationships and qualitative and quantitative techniques applied in each phase are analyzed in detail.Fourthly, the expert coordination basic for qualitative and quantitative integration analysis is developed, which studies how to integrate wisdom effectively through qualitative and quantitative analysis methods. The coordination tasks and methods in WDE are analyzed, the expert group argumentation model is developed, and the coordination process is investigated for system engineers to control experts through the argumentation model. The whole study process reflects the integration analysis for qualitative argumentation method and quantitative argumentation model, and also the integration of expert wisdom.Fifthly, the content coordination basic is studied for qualitative and quantitative integration analysis. Here the content means the strategies, and the forming process of innovative strategies is also the process of qualitative and quantitative integration analysis. In the strategies coordination process, the internal coordination of strategies (the coordination of tactics and equipment in our strategy), the external coordination (the coordination of tactics and equipment in enemy's strategy) and the coordination of strategy with future scenario are studied. Also, the methods for evaluating and reconsidering the coordination effect are investigated through qualitative and quantitative analysis.Sixthly, case study. Through the design of strategies for gaining mastery of the air, the basic process of the analyzing method for integrating qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis in WDE is illustrated in a global view.
