Yuan River is the golden waterway which leads to Yangtze River from the area of the southeast Hunan and the western Guizhou Province, the resources in this valley is extremely rich. At present, Along with the constructions of Hydroelectric power hub in WuQiangxi and LinJintuan, the water-route in reservoir district has been significantly improved, and some characteristics of the inland river water transportation are fully manifested such as large freight volume, low cost, and suiting for transporting staple cargo and primary raw material and products in industry and agriculture. It will play an important role in promoting economy development in Hunan and especially in partial areas of the southeast Hunan and the western Guizhou Province, and expediting infrastructure construction in the western area. However, owing to the existing pell-mell models , small tonnage, high transport costs, low technical conditions and the low competitiveness of the transport ships, the capacity of inland waterways and sluice is not fully rationally used, the technology of transport ships and its economical capacity can not meet the demand of development. Thus, we must quicken the step to advance the standardization of Yuan River ships. As technical essential work of ship standardization, the technical economic evaluation of ship is extremely urgent.Chaos optimization theory is a new optimization method in recently years, and its ergodic property can be used as the optimization mechanism. This measure is not only easy, but also can be easily escapes from local optimums, and its results are objective and accuracy. At present, chaos optimization method is used in some fields, and got a successful application.In this paper, we will complete the argumentation of ship type of the non-stop artery freighter in Yuan River based on Chaos optimization method, and it also can provide technological supports to advance the standardization of Yuan River transportation ships. There are five sections. In the first section, it is the introduction to the souce, bankground and methods used of this paper. In the second section, it is the introduction to the present situation of the channel and the ports, and then introduces the analysis of the freight transport market condition in Yuan River. In the third section, it is the elaboration to the chaos basic principle and the application, then introduced the chaos optimization principle and the optimized basic step with emphasis. In the fourth section, it is about the argumentation of ship type of the non-stop artery freighter in Yuan River based on Chaos optimization method. By the comparision of Chaos optimization method and traditional optimization method-the Grid optimization method, validate the feasibility and validity of chaos optimization method. And, discuss the key problems in the optimal evaluation of ship type based on Chaos optimization method, then draw a beneficial conclusion, it can serves a instructive role in the technical application of the Chaos optimization method. The fifth section, summarize this research and then forecast the further studies.The research indicates that Chaos optimization method can be used in the optimization of ship type principal dimentions, the obtained optimum plans of ship type principal dimentions in all the various routes of Yuan River provide technical support for standardization of ship types in Yuan River.
