Oral Medicine Digital Image Processing and Assistant Treatment System is part of Guangzhou City 2004 Annual Technology Plan Projects "Integrative Oral Digital Diagnosis and Treat System (2004Z3-E0241)". The project contains two parts, the hardware and the software. The software is Oral Medicine Digital Image Processing and Assistant Treatment System. The hardware is dental chair and control system. They aim to improve the efficiency of oral diagnosis and the dental treatment instrument and to bring convenience for doctor.This article studies for the following problems: First, teeth apical positioning and root canal measurement; Second, teeth bone mineral density measurement; Third, oral diagnosis and treatment information management; Fourth, serial communication between PC and the dental chairs.The Oral Medicine Digital Image Processing and Assistant Treatment System contains image acquisition, image processing, oral diagnosis and treatment information management, serial communication between PC and the dental chairs, remote communication. This article aims at image processing, oral diagnosis and treatment information management, serial communication between PC and the dental chairs. Study was developed by the following aspects:1. Apical positioning and root canal measurement are the key to the success of the root canal treatment. Because X radial images have characters such as broad dynamic range, contain a lot of details, weak contrast and so on. Dentists concern the root of tooth in oral medicine. It is difficult to distinguish the root of tooth in the X radial image, because the density of the apical is equal to the density of the groove of tooth. this article applies image enhancement method of medical mix space, moreover, this method was improved by introducing part histogram equalization to extend gray level. At last, oral X radial images were enhanced, then, the root of tooth was located and root canal dimension was measured. 2. Teeth bone mineral density is important data for the judgment of the teeth healthy condition. This paper uses X ray light density method which used the aluminium slice to be the standard. It contains two method ,one is gray reverse density, another is enhance light density. X radial tooth images were enhanced by Pseudo-color, Pseudo-color image enhancement can be qualitative measurement of bone mineral density, but also can be used to apical positioning.3. Oral clinic databases contain a lot of images. This section discusses oral clinic treatment flows , electronic medical records, network security, database link interface and image save or read.4. Developed a PC and dental chairs controller's serial communication protocol, realized intelligent control between PC and dental chairs, realized the function of memory the best dental chair position into the database.
