The mechanical ventilator is an artificial organ of vital importance in the emergency service. The ventilator provides total or partial breaihing assistance and is adjusted to match the patient's intrinsic breathing ability.With many advances in technology, microprocessors and computers have been used to increase the flexibility and effectiveness of mechanical ventilators considerably.This paper designs a new type portable medical ventilator according to the request of using in battle field.In electrical circuit design, high quality gas flow and pressure sensors are used. With special measures, the respiratory signals are detected precisely. In order to improve the anti-interference capability, electrical circuit has been enhanced. All data are stored in a FLASH chip. A Bluetooth Module processes the communication requires and transfers stored data to the host compute. Informations are displayed by a LCD module. Supervisor circuit alerts the operator when any parameter exceeds the setting value.In software design, Reliable real time operation system (RTOS) UC/OS-II provides a platform for the functional software. UC/OS-II is a reliable, scalable, multi-tasking and portable RTOS product. This makes expension (TCP/IP protocol, GUI, etc.) of control software impossible. In order to achive all functions of portable ventilator, seven tasks are designed.A 3.2L oxygen bottles is used as O2 supply. The respiratory circuit consists of oxygen bottles, throttle valves, solenoid valve, air-oxygen mixer, safety valve, respiratory valve and mask.Testing result shows that the portable ventilator is fit for emergency service.
