The high head hydraulic turbines are featured with the non-adjustable runner blades to adapt the operating condition, the typical type is the Frances which is extensively used all over the world. The usage advantage for this type is the bigger capacity per unit, and the disadvantage is the operational stability problem occurs frequently. This paper discussed and concluded the vibration issue for the high head turbines based on the structure feature of the high head turbine, and integrated the turbine vibration evidence observed in the unit operation of the domestic and abroad hydraulic power station. This paper focus on the operating stability and reliability analysis of the main components (runner, head cover, double guide cascade parts) which is sensitive to the turbine vibration for the 700MW unit capacity turbine supplied by Harbin Electric Machinery Company Ltd. for Three Gorge Right Bank Power plant. The analysis methods was set up for the turbine runner vibration in the view of mechanics, and the finite element analysis for nature frequency of the runner and dynamic stress measurement for model and prototype runner blades were published. The resonant possibility between nature frequency and exciting source of the runner for Three Gorge turbine were studied and concluded, and the vibration calculation and analysis for the head cover and double guide cascade, which are also the vital components for the turbine stability, were carried out and concluded. This paper will provide the systemic guideline for investigating and dealing with the main components vibration problem of high head turbine during the product design and unit operation in the power station.
