The runner of Kaplan turbine is an important part of the axial flow adjustable-blade turbine,which is directly related to the safety and reliability of the hydropower station.The runner of Kaplan turbine used in the hydropower station must have good stiffness,strength and sealing performance in order to ensure the hydropower station to run smoothly.The blade of Kaplan turbine will be related with distributor to guarantee the turbine on high efficiency,when the load is changing.As the operated function of blade is needed,the runner of Kaplan turbine is a complicated part.Besides,economic efficiency should be taken into account.Therefore,in order to improve the working performance of the runner,the reasonable structure design should be conducted.Therefore,the new runner of Kaplan turbine with optimized design is needed to satisfy the turbine output power increasing.The runner of Kaplan turbine used in the hydropower station is chosen as the research object in the paper.Optimized design of Kaplan runner will be carryed out because of the turbine output power increasing requirement of Ge Zhouba power station.Firstly,on the basis of the theoretical formula,the working load of the runner of Kaplan turbine is studied.Further,the dimension of the key components is calcultated in order to determine the sturcture of the Kaplan runner,which lay the foundation for the further research.Secondly,the finite element models of the runner hub and the blade are built and the optimum boundary conditions are determined.By the nonlinear analysis using the ANSYS software,the contact pressure and the deformation of the sealing ring are obtined in order to validate the sealing performance of the designed the runner hub and the blade.Further,the stress distribution and the structral deformation are otained in the different working conditions,which validate that the runner hub and the blade have the enough stiffness and strength.Thirdly,the designing principle of the blade sealing will be determined according to the research on the different structures and characters of blade sealing.The structure of the blade sealing will be determined according to the structure of the Kaplan runner.And mechanism of runner blade will be researched according to the space inside the runner hub and operating route.Finally,according to pre-assembly and operating in workshop etc,the stiffness,strength and sealing performance under the different conditions are tested.By the action tests,the designed mechanism is validated to have a good working performance.
