As the replacer of analog oscilloscope, digital storage oscilloscope(DSO) is the widest used tools for analyzing electronic signals, the design and study of DSO is an active field. The new manufactory and production of DSO has come forth continually, and the correlative technology is developing rapidly. The designed digital storage oscilloscope is an oscilloscope for generic using with 100MHz bandwidth and deep catch memory. We have made full use of deep memory through peak detection and smoothing, and achieved higher update rate. With deep memory, DSO can get more waveform information in one catch period. For the enhancement of waveform update rate, large amount of waveform data will bring challenges greatly. This paper introduces the basic theory and concept of DSO, makes thorough analysis for the function and characteristic of oscilloscopes with deep memory, determine the architecture of multi-controller distributed processing. With advanced devices of DSP, FPGA, VRAM, and techniques of microprogram control, we have achieved the design goal smoothly. At the end of paper, it gives the test results of the instrument's performance, curves of frequency response and waveform update rate. Comparing with other company's product, the performance specifications of designed oscilloscope achieves international similar product advanced level at update rate.
