Heading information is a very important parameter during the operation of the vehicle. With the extending of its applied field and the development of science and technology, the precision and the reliability of the heading imformation are increasingly inhanced. Magnetic heading syetem uses geomagnetic field to measure the heading information of the vehicle. It has some merits such as small size, high precision and stable performance. However, it also has the inherent characteristic of sensitive to the external interferences, while the Rate gyroscope of inertial device doesn't have such shortcoming. Thus The integrated heading system researched in the thesis accordingly combines the two types of these sensors to measures the heading information of the vehicle, with the magnetic compass as the main sensors, the rate gyroscoope as the assistant sensor and the single chip as the controller of them. This thesis completes the development for the prototyping experimental plank of the integreted heading system, which includes the system hardware design and software program. With the single chip as its controlling core, the system uses the differential compass and the rate gyroscope to collect the heading information of the vehicle. After the processing of such information, it is passed to other peripheral interfaces through serial communication of UART. The experimental results confirm that the system has improved the precision of the heading effectively, with some features like small in size, light weight, and its reliable performance. It can be used in helicopter,terrain-vehicle system and other fields where the heading information is needed.
