The concrete gravity dam which is safe, easy to design and construct, good compatible to the geology condition, easy to solve the problem of river diversion and flood discharge during construction is main dam in practical construction in China. It's always used in present project. But,at present quality of project and the degree of security of gravity dam still relies on experience. What's important content in gravity dam design is profile design, which main duty is choose right profile and shape according to security, economy and intensity request to make volume of dam smallest, construction conveniently, by analysis and computation. Therefore, gravity dam's profile size directly relates the entire quantity and investment. So the key question of gravity dam design is to find the most optimized profile through optimized design.This article summarized security appraisal method of gravity dam, stability analysis method of concrete gravity dam that slides along the sliding surface, stability against slide analysis method of concrete gravity dam which slides along the dam weak structure surface of bedrock, proposed basic concept of structure optimization design, take unit dam section surface area as the objective function, take the main load(dead load , uplift ,water pressure and silt pressure) under stability condition and the intensity condition as the restraint condition, has established structure optimization design mathematical model of concrete gravity dam. Has developed optimization design software of non- overflow concrete gravity dam with VB language, has carried on the optimized design using this software to non- overflow gravity dam profile in Ba jiangkou hydro project, obtained the design profile. Through application in project, proves the optimized method which proposed in article is reasonable, the result is reliable, it is indicted that gravity dam optimization design and software proposed in article compatible well to practical project.This article analyzed the relations between non- overflow gravity dam profile parameter X1, X2, X3 and upstream water level, shear friction coefficient, uplift reduction coefficient. Result indicated with the friction coefficient increase or upstream water level reducing, upstream point of gradient change position gradually to change lowly, upstream slope of dam gradually reduced, until upstream surface stands vertically, downstream slope of dam gradually reduced, until the smallest downstream dam slope 0.5 given by this article, uplift reduction coefficient influenced to dam profile has bigger relations to shear friction coefficient. All of this give good reference to the engineering design.
