In recent years, Finite Element Method was wildly used for the structure analysis of arch dams. But calculating stress of arch dam with three-dimensional elasticity Finite Element Method, there is being existed the phenomenon of a notable stress concentration near the foundation part, and the value of stress will increase rapidly with the mesh densified. Especially the stress value has far exceeded the concrete tensile strength sometimes, so it is very difficult to determine the configuration of arch dam by using the results of Finite Element Method directly. To ideal elasticity solid, that above-mentioned phenomenon of stress concentration is understandable. But in actual project the concentrating stress can relieve since some cracks being existed in rocks. To avoid the problem of stress concentration, this paper put forward using the three-dimension nonlinearity Finite Element Method to analyze the stress of arch dam, and considering being existed cracks in rocks. This paper analyzed the stress of the Shan Kou Yan arch dam by using the put forwarded method in this paper, and compared with the calculation results of Arch-Beam Method and Equivalent Stress Method of Finite Element. Comparative analysis indicates the method put forwarded in this paper can effectively settle the problem of stress concentration near basis of arch dam.This paper studied the mechanism of concrete cracking, compared and analyzed several crack calculating model of concrete. This paper calculated and traced cracks of the Shan Kou Yan arch dam, studied of setting position of cross joints and induced joints.This paper apply parameterization design language APDL to have developed Visualization building model of arch dam with taking ANSYS8.0 as platform, making the process of building finite element model more sample, convenience and faster. Since customer operation was designed according to the process sequence of building model, consumers operate convenience. This may greatly improve the analyzing efficiency of arch dam.
